Economic Sanctions and State Jurisdiction

We investigated how economic sanctions are perceived by those concerned with their political purpose and practical consequences. 612 respondents from 14 jurisdictions contributed to the study, which explored attitudes towards effectiveness, legitimacy and the reach of national policy beyond domestic borders. Alongside these assessments, we examined views on commercial uncertainty, international coordination and the circumstances in which sanctions were considered an appropriate instrument of influence. The paper considered how professional background and national context shaped respondents' assessments of these measures.
